(text in Spanish) I like the ones with the little penguins, and the whole exercise reminds me of the Keds I wore through junior high, because of marching band, which always eventually got covered with 4-color ballpoint scrawls.

beautiful. reminds me of…can’t remember his name. mexican-style artist who I saw at Tacoma Art Museum 15 yrs ago. would love to see her do something with LA maps.(tags: arts)

alas, unsurprising to me. I spent 6 years working in a concrete bunker, and the building I’m in now had to have film put over the windows, when what it really needed was to have been designed with awnings.(tags: architecture)

I like the look of that thermos-style bento.

cool & weird

heh.

I saw it last night! No, it didn’t look that cool, but I found it with the naked eye while standing in my backyard, and again w/binoculars. A definite greenish tinge, and a bit smudged in comparison to the nearby stars.

This is something I want…although I also want a victorian-style monument. I love those. (Strange but true: for 16 years of my life I have lived just a short walk from a cemetery. I find them beautiful.)

The neighborhood association does this! I had no idea there was a national center for it.
history of the red giant
Spring 2002: red Giant mountain bike purchased at Bike Tech in south Tacoma. (IIRC, it was the 2nd bike we bought that year; there was a yellow one just before that which wasn’t very good and got returned.)
[unrelated: Spring 2004: silver Townie purchased at Bike Tech in Olympia.]
September 2006: bike stolen from carport.
April 2007: replacement bike, a grey Giant, purchased from Bike Tech in Olympia.
May 2007: bike found by C in Lacey, recovered from possible thief. Bike was then found to be in non-usable condition and donated to Build-A-Bike project for refurbishment/reuse. (Blog post from the time.)
November 2007: Olympia police found red Giant in a pawn shop and came to ask C about it, I think because it was still reported as stolen.

I have been a NASA fan since I was a little kid (even tho humans haven’t walked on the moon in my lifetime), so this is very nice to see.

1) what, no greater f*ckwad theory? 2) imagine that, Calacanis & Winer being jerks. 😉 3) hey, that’s my buddy Dylan.

always good to have another rounded corners technique at the ready.(tags: css)

architectural hardwoods – source for really nice plywood. I thought I’d already tagged this, but it was only in my email. (apple-ply is the brand we saw in use, see misc. sheet.)

That’s a really good idea. I definitely need to be preparing lunches ahead of time, especially for those days when I want to go in early & exercise.

Ralph is very actively seeking employment. If you are reading this & looking for a smart front end web guy in the NJ area or remote, you should check him out. (prodded by a post from Shelley.)

“the program’s popularity has created a $34.5 million budget shortfall at Washington’s community and technical colleges” — okay, I’m going to say it: I told you so. (not “you” specifically, but generically.) I’ve been saying that RS is key in the FTE cri
the one thing about this layout
I’m pretty happy with my current design, but the homepage goes a little berserk if there isn’t a non-del.icio.us post in the last few days. So in brief:
Trip to CA was fun. I have more pics than my last road trip, to be posted soon. (ha!)
Very busy, overall. Falling behind on reviewing books; need to get stuff together for next week’s neighborhood association meeting; need to finish work on Christmas Tree Lane Association site. (Turns out, the previous webmaster died, which is why nobody knows anything. Ouch.)
Sunny weather today, although this morning and a couple of other days this week featured frozen fog. Brrr. Biked 3 days out of 5, which is pretty darn good for Oct/Nov.
All of the leaves on the two front trees (the aspens that ate Olympia) seem to be falling this week. I raked & mowed on Sunday afternoon, but you wouldn’t know it now.
It’s probably madness, but I’m even pondering NaNoWriMo. I’m trying the “snowflake method” of fiction writing, which is entirely opposite from my usual “write like crazy until starts to turn into something method” — I haven’t finished a novel, so it’s worth a shot.

“seasonal depression and mood disorders become more prevalent […] also toward the western edges of time zones” Hmm. Puget Sound is northerly, cloudy & at the W edge of PST. Also, I’d go nuts w/out my light on the timer, goes off 15 mins before alarm.

okay, I’m totally drooling now.

hmmm. I’m not sure yet what I make of it. Some very anti-usability themes, which I don’t quite understand.(tags: philosophizing misc_tech)

If Joe & Mark were in the same room, would the universe implode? I think I find their writing entirely fascinating in exactly the same way, if in entirely opposite directions.

I hate hate hate the TPL system’s opac. Both ugly and annoying.

I have to figure out how to do this to my truck.
