send good thoughts

“Anita R. may have ovarian cancer”:http://www.anitarowland.com/gmarchives/00001428.html — I’ve met her once, last year at a forum on weblogs and journalism, and have been reading her blog ever since. Anita is the queen bee of Seattle blogging, and a darn nice person.

the more things change…

today I put my hair up with a big clip, and shortly before I went to a meeting grabbed a pen and absentmindedly tucked it into my back hair. later, was in the restroom and, looking in the mirror, realized I hadn’t taken it out. man, it’s been so long since I could leave pens in my hair….

(I really need to post a new picture on my bio page.)

no more!

I typed in almost 10 pages tonight, and I have 20-some handwritten pages yet to transcribe (probably works out to another 8-12 pages in double-spaced 12 point times new roman). whew. I really shouldn’t have put it off so long.

but as I said before, it feels damn good to be writing. as I’m typing it in, I’m not really doing any editing yet, but I’m starting to see where I want to edit, where I want to add new scenes.

I haven’t had a writing experience like this in a long time, because I’m exploring plot, characters, and settings that are relatively new to me — although some of them have been hanging out in my head for a very long time. (“the tall guy”, anyone?) I’m jumping back and forth over the timeline of this section as I get bits of inspiration, images, flashes of ideas.

in typing it up, I’m hoping to be able to see the connections, and the disconnections, the bits that don’t make sense, as well. so far, that’s been the case.

it’s just that my typing can’t keep up. (again, a tablet might be a nice thing. or not…hard to say.)

sorta procrastinating

I was typing up all the writing I’ve been doing in my paper journal these last few weeks (pages and pages and pages!), and am taking an extended break to fart about on the Intarweb.

maybe I really *do* need me one of them new-fangled tablet PCs. this retyping crap sux.

the hall of shame

these blogs (in no particular order) do not appear to have an rss feed (a rss feed?):

* memex
* flummel
* gus
* evhead
* talking points memo hey, look who just got a feed!
* anita
* stavros
* accessify
* lisa strange
* fontlover
* kat
* both of joe clark’s active blogs
* anitra pavka
* red/photolog
* design desk
* erica (currently)
* made for all

I’d say, “fine! to hell with them!” but, um, several favorites and two personal friends are on that list. damn you, get some rss already. (also: stupid blogspot/blogger regular.)

so lovely

I’d forgotten how good it felt to “dip into the well of words,” as I’ve put it before. yeah, writing is going well. (and no, Kat, telling you about it didn’t kill my streak this time.)

more thoughts re: feed on feeds

I don’t like it. I mean, I like the concept a lot but I don’t like the interface at all. so, in the spirit of the thing, I’m going to sketch out how I want it to work, and see if I can hack it to work the way *I* want it to. 🙂

I found “rnews”:http://rnews.sourceforge.net/ but I don’t care for its interface either. like with a photo archive — no, I haven’t gotten one together yet, thanks for asking — I can see exactly what I want, and what’s out there doesn’t quite match.

curious

I was looking around in the mt logs and somebody was searching on C’s full name, apparently from a computer at evergreen. (J? if that’s you, you should know that he & I have this little agreement whereby I don’t talk about him. which is probably a good thing, for someone wanting to be low-profile on the web. I have way too much google-ability.)
