the authors of The Body Blues. sounds interesting.
misc hoohas.
ow – protecting scripts in XHTML makes my head hurt.
neato (in a really morbid way): tombstone transcription project (Pierce Co.) – I love cemetaries, especially very old ones, because they have such personality. I want to be marked with a massive gaudy victorian-style tombstone, preferably with a statue of a weeping lovely and a poem about what a wonderful person I was. also, Lakewood has a bizarre number of cemetaries…check out the info about the Old Settler (Steilacoom Pioneer) Cemetery – I drive by it several times a week, and find it totally fascinating. (there’s also a Mason’s cemetary with barbed wire and a semi-abandoned cemetary from the old WA State mental hospital not that far away.)

Jacob, check out this regional blog: LA Blogs.
I love this concept: ShorDurPerSav – “The True SubGenius accepts into his heart, on a strictly temporary basis, anyone or anything with which he happens to be impressed at the moment.” sort of the obverse of Edith’s old truism that anything which really bugged her was a sign of the apocalypse.
and, apparently, I am the Superfriends’ Batman. I’ve never even seen Superfriends!
somebody had a bad day…
whoa.
just go read this guy’s blog: visible darkness – I’ll fully admit to understanding about half of it, maybe a little more on a good brain day, but it makes me feel smart to let my brain be led in that direction. 🙂
wooden legs on 50 pounds a year
I was dead bored a couple of days ago, so I pulled my old The Complete Sherlock Holmes (if Powell’s is to be believed, it’s an out of print edition) off of the shelf. it’s amazing – I’ve read those little tales so often that I practically have them memorized. “ah, yes, the Five Pips – that’s the one about the KKK, isn’t it?”
a few things that occur to me on this reading….
– in the first few stories, Watson & Holmes were actually quite young; I’m guessing still in their late 20s?
– many of the stories involve terrible things that happened in America, India and/or Australia coming back to haunt the victims or principal characters.
– young women are often taken advantage of or abused by their male relatives (fathers, step-fathers, uncles, etc.) so that said relatives can continue to use their “income”.
– I’d’ve hated to have been Watson’s patient.
– DNA testing (hell, blood typing) could’ve put Holmes out of business.
– people had more wooden legs back in the day.
Baker St. Museum – my goodness, what a gaudy site. the background music is lovely, tho it clashes badly with somafm. (they also take themselves a little too seriously, or so it would seem.) I prefer…
Sherlockian.net (hrm. the guy that played Mycroft in the wonderful TV series was also the man-with-no-neck in Rocky Horror. go figure.)
tom ka gai
ingredients:
1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast
1 packet “coconut ginger soup mix” – made by Taste of Thai – I’ve found that not all grocery stores carry it, so you may have to hunt around
rice (approx 1 – 1 1/2 cups uncooked)
1 can coconut milk (I buy the light kind, and don’t notice the difference)
water
lime juice (optional)
peas, mushrooms, baby corn, etc. (optional – I prefer peas or mushrooms)
start the rice, following the directions. I love my 2nd-hand rice cooker.
cut up the chicken into 1″ cubes.
heat the coconut milk and soup mix until boiling.
add chicken, reduce heat to low and cook for about 10 minutes…until the chicken is cooked through.
add 1 1/2 cups water and increase heat – cook until hot. you can either add the vegetables with the water, or right before serving. if you’ve remembered to buy lime juice, add a dash (I usually forget).
serve over rice.
damn easy and damn tasty. (as always, thanks to Greyson, who introduced this to me as “the perfect date food.”)
expanding my brain
well, I was going to write more about the items linked below, but I find that I’d rather make dinner. 😛 although I will say that I like what K had to say about “any idiot” getting a weblog, and that it’s a speculation that I haven’t read anywhere else. no, don’t stay here for original thought; go away.

epicurious?
should post tom ka gai recipe, such as it is, since I think it’s the tastiest thing ever.
