I don’t remember exactly what bugged me about this book (since I read it several months ago), but what I do remember is (a) author had some sort of hobby-horse (abortion, I think?) and (b) I found myself reading the book about the history of Superman instead. And I’m not really into Superman.

I always enjoy Mary Oliver. A lot of facing mortality, and an odd sort of religiosity, in these more recent poems. But a sort of god-in-nature spirit that I connect with. I should really get more of her books to have on hand.

Vague memory: enjoyed it, mostly. Some interesting tidbits on the nature of randomness and human beings’ instincts for creating patterns out of nothing. I don’t think I finished it, and had to return it to the library. Might want to read again sometime.
