what does it actually cost

what does it actually cost to operate the car? -gas -tuneup (we’d have to give the car a regular tuneup sooner than usual) -food for the journey.

1100 miles @ 25mpg = 44 gallons x $1.30 = $57.20 x 2 (round-trip) = $114.40
regular tune-up = $0 – $30 (depending on what milage point we’re at then)
food is negligable, since we’d be eating anyway.
extra gas, for driving around in So Cal…that one’s hard to say.

so I’m starting to doubt that it would save any money. the only way to make it worthwhile would be to make it a “real” vacation.

all this holds true, pretty much, for going to Lance’s wedding as well.

costs for reunion: the actual

costs for reunion:
the actual event: $67
air fare: $270-290 (SWA seems to have it at $248, but that doesn’t include fees, taxes, etc.)
car rental: $26+/day ($50-$100 total)
plus of course food & other incidental expenses.

the question, in my mind, is whether it would be economical to drive down. this would take more time, but possibly cost less money.

note: rail passage looks to be about $200 – possibly the most economical deal, to my immense surprise.

I’m also assuming that I’ll be staying with K, Raul, Franz, Mom, or Aunt Susie, so no hotel costs.

total? $317 – $457. ouch. and it’s on Chad’s birthday. the question rears its ugly head…is this worth it?

got it set, via blogspot. Chad should start reading JOHO on a regular basis.

philosophical thought: ‘blogging, and reading weblogs, increases the capacity of my brain. or at least that’s what it feels like.

still experiencing massive weirdness trying to set up Chad’s weblog. I may need to shift to blogspot until I can figure out what the problem is with drizzle.

I’m hanging out with Chad at the BG Clubs BOTT Lab, just goofing around on the workstation, surfing my favorite ‘blogs on the supafast internet connection. except, frustratingly enough, for my email and K’s journal, which are both being blocked by some kind of crappy nanny-ware.

trying to set up a weblog for Chad & running into much strangeness. So I’m going to look around in my own settings & see if I can figure out what’s up.

Free the Mouse!“Every time the Disney copyright is about to expire, the terms of copyright protection get extended.”

Mac OSX – Unix under the desktop – oh, and Doc has good links on the stuff going on in the congress.

Chad sends me this – I’m going to get him blog-ified this weekend. he just finds too much great stuff!

by way of MeFi: the Mini Cooper returns – of course I emailed this to Matt.

Doc doesn’t include this sharp commentary from Mossberg (via Scripting, who else?)

and finally, if you can manage not to be permanently damaged by the blinding blue and wacky columns, this bit from the pueblo, co people on non-traditional education is pretty interesting.
