election night
Tonight, we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope.
[audio/transcript @NPR] or [NYT speech extravaganza w/video, transcript, interactive doo-dads]
It’s a wobbly emotional state you’re in now. One minute you’re laughing until your sides hurt and the next you’re gazing out the window at nothing in particular for extended amounts of time.
I probably have a ton of stuff I need to write, but mostly I have to say that I’m surprised at the intensity of my reaction yesterday. Standing in my kitchen, baking chocolate-chip oatmeal cookies, drinking cranberry juice with a dash (or more) of vodka, listening to NPR, and yes, bursting into tears.
No, not bursting, just letting out a deep breath, and then the tears were just there. (Admittedly, I cry with absurd ease.) I’m glad Kat called, later: it was good to just talk it all out with someone I’ve known since the 1st Clinton term.
Here’s to hope, y’all.
