I shouldn’t laugh, but it’s just too absurd.

which makes this the online equivalent of the dreaded big sheet of weekly chores that lived on the side of the fridge through a large chunk of my youth. (which was one reason I was so thrilled to get a job.)

what a trippy idea. actually, it might work better for me for side work than slimtimer, which I’m always forgetting to start. I *always* have gtalk open.

“The basic rule of American constitutionalism is this: Before the government can forbid you from doing anything, it has to provide a reason. “Because we say so” does not count as a reason.” — ::sigh::

I’ve been wondering about that. OTOH, it’s Ruby on Rails. Do I want to get into that?(tags: creditunion cms_research)
PSA: fuel efficiency
This morning I finally got around to adding more air to my bike tires. Yesterday, my average speed was 10.4 MPH. This morning: 12.5 MPH. I took 4 minutes off of my commute.
I’ve read, of course, that keeping the correct pressure in your tires is important for fuel efficiency. But it’s not the easiest thing to see with a car: you go the same speed & distance, and unless you’re a number cruncher, it’s hard to compare how much gas you buy.
On the other hand, the “fuel” for a bicycle is your own effort, so it’s really easy to feel how much of that you’re using!

“bank-style” lines are faster, apparently. I think this may also be one reason why the self-check section at Fred Meyer is often faster.

fascinating and sort of depressing. (in my high school, there were 3 broad groups: honors class kids, gangbangers, and the kids that hung out behind the gym. I can imagine almost precisely how SNS would have played out in that environment.)

somebody replaced the surfaces of *their* Jerker with high-quality plywood. what a rad idea!
lazyweb — desk on wheels?
I’ve done some searching hither and yon but not run into anything….
We own an Ikea Jerker desk, which I like, but it has one flaw as far as the way we like our furniture: no wheels. Right now it’s disassembled in the front room, and I think we’ve decided about where it’s going to go. But with as often as C like to rearrange furniture, wheels would help a lot. Most of our favorite items have wheels, and they come in insanely helpful.
And I don’t know how to add wheels to the Jerker. It seems like there’s a lot of Ikea hacks related to the Jerker, but mostly in the area of cord management.
Any suggestions?
