dusting of snow

This morning I woke up well before dawn to the usual fussing of cats wanting to go outside.  I just happened to glance over to the patio door as Boingo rushed outside…and saw a good inch of snow covering everything!

I went back to sleep and woke again after sunrise (such as it was) — no more snow, but the snow still there.  So I got up in the hopes of catching some photos for this year’s Christmas card.

Alas, it was raining when I went outside, so I only got a couple of quick snapshots.

And by late afternoon the snow was all gone, except for a teensy spot behind the car.  (BTW, I’m feeling proud of myself yesterday for thinking, “hey, it could snow: let’s clean off the carport so the car can fit.”)

“They” say that we might get some more tonight and tomorrow.  (Then Tuesday it’s just supposed to be hella cold.)  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

things for which I am thankful

With the weather as it is right now — cold and raining pretty much sideways — I’m grateful for a warm roof over my head.  And for my new (free!) bedframe and cute Ikea sheets.  (Also for neighborhood free piles, which I have both created and taken from.)
I’m thankful for our friend C, and for all the D&D that he & C & I have been playing (with J occasionally).  And for his level-headed good humor.

The good people I’ve been able to work with this year.  The cool projects I’ve been able to work on.  Being able to work from home, and even better, from B&B downtown with the free wifi.

The farmer’s market, and especially the friendly folks at Stewart Meats and their really fine local products.  Including the turkey that I’ll be starting on shortly.

C’s silly singing, which I’m being subjected to right now.  And of course for his general presence in my life over the last almost 10 years, smart and funny, even if a little too intense sometimes.

The cats, as usual.  (I still miss Maddy.)

My garden, in all its madness.  Also the solid methodology of square-foot gardening, for giving me a good framework.

My bicycle; this year in particular, for finding buckets to attach to the rack for $10 at the downtown yard sale, so it could be my pack horse all summer long.

The library!

The internets!

I’m very thankful that I was able to go to SXSW back in March.  I was able to resolve some outstanding emotional issues that go way, way back, to reconnect with an old friend, and to meet new friends.  Plus it was totally brain-expanding, and an opportunity for some solo time.

My kid sister, who continues to be a cool interesting and incredibly supportive person.

My doctor, my physical therapist, and my (now retired) therapist.  Plus bupropion.

Yoga classes at work.

That I kept going through the mood crashes and awful days, through bursts of sadness and despair and frustration, and that I’m still here and alive and ready to keep going.

long weekend #1

I took a couple of days off at the end of last week, and it was a crazy & productive weekend….

Living room floor is back to the subfloor, which is almost almost almost done, in prep for putting the carpet down for real.  Probably would’ve been done yesterday, but we were out dealing with tree branches.  That was a comedy of errors in itself, with a “chipping event” that couldn’t be found and a trip to the dump instead…in the pouring rain.  Yes, after three days of sun, too.

Trip to Ikea on Thursday, which was shockingly way less stressful than those sorts of things usually are!  We bought some doodads, including some very lovely stainless steel utensil holders, lots of candles (strange but true: Ikea is a great source for cheap candles), and one piece of furniture.  Supposedly a kitchen cart/drawer thing, but we both looked at it and said: tool chest!  As usual, it was a PITA to put together.  But in this case, the result was really good.  As in, showing it off to anyone who happened to be handy, including the owner of the house next door.

I finally got a ride in, out to the Albertson’s a mile or so away for some breakfast-related things.  (Including half and half, my notorious thing to buy out on a ride.)  Felt really good, but oh I’m missing my regular rides.

Plus D&D Saturday, one of the better games, in which our characters laid waste to a ginormous lizardman posse that was attacking one of the outposts on the way back to our mountain fastness.  (Where we’re headed to pick up our cohorts & maybe some red-shirts so as to take on the strange doings around the mysterious meteor that destroyed Astercroix.)  As A. at work says: good times.  Also: cleave! 😉

This weekend, of course, is also a long weekend.  Yesterday we got our Thanksgiving dinner shopping done, barring any last-minute stuff.  Planning on more housework, too….
